Tell us about Guess Design House and some of the services you provide?
At GDH Productions, we provide support for businesses, catering to their diverse video requirements. Our services include design, branding and are centred around producing corporate, promotional, event videos, and more.
What was the motivation behind starting up this business?
I've always had a passion for film and have directed several short films. Starting this business allowed me to combine that passion with others. I have always believed in collaboration and starting this business allowed me to focus on my passions and gives me the freedom to work on what I enjoy while working with like minded professionals.
Why do you want to support Black entrepreneurs?
It’s very important to support black business owners and invest in each other. This way, we as a community can build financial freedom and generational wealth. Also, I want to provide high quality video to represent black businesses in the best light.
How does Guess Design House amplify the businesses it serves?
I believe we make compelling visuals that encourage engagement. Video stands as an important tool for user interaction, boosting credibility and driving conversions. Video content is already having a wider reach than other forms of marketing and content creation and we work closely with our clients to ensure a wider reach and a lasting impact on audiences.
What are some of the challenges you face as a business owner in the film production
industry?
One of the biggest challenges is managing clients expectations with their budgets. However, being able to bring the client's vision to life whilst being realistic and mutually beneficial is rewarding.
The nature of working in production comes with its own challenges (unpredictable weather, external noise etc) but it's our job to provide solutions and we are experienced in doing so.
What advice would you give small business owners on how they can effectively
incorporate video production affordably?
Set clear goals of what you want from video. Is it to build brand awareness or show benefit, build engagement or showcase features of a product or service? Repurpose content. Think of all the places video can be displayed to have the most impact. One video can be used on various platforms such as websites, social media and in a keynote. Be clear on what you want from video production. Short form content for socials might be more cost effective if filmed on a mobile phone. However for longer form content it may be more beneficial to invest in hiring a video production team.

This depends on the business and their marketing goals. Video is an important part of the business to invest in. Businesses with diverse budgets can utilise video production to craft high-quality content, tailored to their target audience. long term?
I think the key to success is consistency in your niche and strong client relationships. You also have to be flexible, which allows you to apply your skills and expertise to a variety of projects. By having a niche you get to specialise, but by being flexible you get to apply your core skills to a spectrum of services. Catering to diverse client needs, staying adaptable, being responsive to technological shifts, market trends and client preferences are keys to sustained success.
From your own personal experiences, what are 3 things you wish you knew before starting up?
I wish I knew the true value of networking. Through starting this business I have discovered how important networking is to build and grow.
I wish I knew how much time was needed to be invested in setting up the business to achieve a healthy work life balance.
